Emusha

The boar of the Vedic hunt. Rigveda 8.77.10 says Indra slew the boar and uses the word emusha of it; the Taittiriya Samhita tells how this boar kept the wealth of the Asuras beyond seven hills until Indra shot it and Vishnu carried the spoil home, and the Kathaka school uses Emusha as its name. In the Shatapatha Brahmana a boar called Emusha, who is Prajapati, raises the earth from the waters. The Puranas give the earth-lifting boar to Vishnu as Varaha.
