Indra Jatra
Eight-day festival of the Newar people of Kathmandu in the month of Yanla (September). It opens with the raising of a tall pole (Yosin) from the forest at Nala in Durbar Square, shows images of the bound Indra on high platforms, and includes the Kumari chariot processions, the wicker elephant Pulu Kisi and the Dagin procession of Indra's mother. Tradition credits King Gunakamadeva (tenth century) with founding it.
