Kanyakubja (Kannauj)
The ancient city on the Ganga now called Kannauj. Both the Ramayana and Xuanzang explain its name as the city of the crooked or hunchbacked maidens; the Ramayana says it was first called Mahodaya, Xuanzang says Kusumapura.
