Rudras

The sons of Rudra as a class. In the Rigveda this is another name of the Maruts. The Brahmanas count eleven and explain them as the ten breaths and the self.

  • Aditi (God)
    One verse calls Aditi the mother of the Rudras, daughter of the Vasus and sister of the Adityas (RV 8.90.15 in Macdonell's numbering).

Rudras form of

  • The Maruts (God)
    The Maruts are often called Rudras or Rudriyas after their father; the Brahmanas then treat the Rudras as a separate class of eleven.
