The many-hooded cosmic serpent on whom Vishnu-Narayana reclines in the ocean of milk; read as time itself, and as the remainder that survives every dissolution. At Srirangam the reclining god rests on five hoods in three and a half coils; Tirumala's seven hills are popularly likened to his hoods.
