The Alvars

Twelve Tamil poet-saints — Poigai, Bhutha, Pey, Tirumalisai, Nammalvar, Madhurakavi, Kulasekhara, Periyalvar, Andal, Thondaradippodi, Tiruppan and Thirumangai — whose four thousand verses Nathamuni gathered in the 10th century as the Tamil Veda. The 108 Divya Desams are the temples they sang.
