Kanwar Yatra

The Shravan pilgrimage in which devotees carry Ganga water on shoulder-poles on foot to Shiva shrines (Pura Mahadev, Augharnath, Kashi, Deoghar); grown from a small affair before the late 1980s to about thirty million at Haridwar in 2023–24. In the east, pilgrims walk 105 km from Sultanganj to Deoghar chanting Bol Bam.
