Vadakkunnathan Temple

Kerala's Shiva temple where a sixteen-foot linga stands under a mound of ghee said never to melt; its legend has Shiva appear to Parashurama as a linga under a banyan. Sakthan Thampuran founded the Thrissur Pooram around it; the elephant-feeding Aanayoottu is held here.
