Vivasvat

The Shining One of the Rigveda: husband of Saranyu, father of Yama, of the Ashvins and of Manu. The Yajurveda and Brahmanas call him an Aditya, and later his name is a common name of the sun.

    The poet calls Vivasvat, Yama's father, to the sacrifice.

    Yama and Yami are the first twins, children of Vivasvat and Saranyu.

    Saranyu bore the Ashvin brothers to Vivasvat. Elsewhere they are children of Heaven.
  • Manu (Sage)
    Manu is the son of Vivasvat, called Vaivasvata from the Atharvaveda on. Yaska says his mother was Savarna, the likeness put in Saranyu's place.
