Elephanta Caves

Also called: Gharapuri

Fifth- to sixth-century rock-cut Shiva temple, probably Kalachuri, whose Cave 1 carries the great three-faced Sadashiva bust and panels of Gangadhara, Ardhanarishvara, the wedding, the slaying of Andhaka, Ravana lifting Kailash, Nataraja and the yogi-lord. UNESCO site since 1987.
