Karthigai Deepam

The lamp festival on the Karthigai full moon with the Krittika star (November–December), mentioned already in the Sangam Akananuru. Rows of clay lamps at home; at Tiruvannamalai a great ghee beacon is lit on the hill to re-enact Shiva's pillar of fire; the same day recalls Kartikeya's six sparks and Tiruchengode's Ardhanarishvara procession.
