Kartikeya
The six-headed war-god born to slay Taraka, who could die only to Shiva's son. In the Mahabharata Shiva's fiery seed is carried by Agni and Ganga and the six babies are nursed by the Krittikas; the Tamil Kanda Puranam has six sparks from Shiva's faces gathered in the Saravana lake and fused by Parvati. As Murugan he is the tutelary god of the Tamil hills with six abodes (Palani, Tiruchendur and others) and two consorts, Devayanai and Valli; in the north his worship declined and he is a celibate Kumara.
