Ganesha

The elephant-headed son of Shiva and Parvati, remover of obstacles, worshipped first in every rite. The Puranas give at least five different accounts of his birth: shaped by Parvati from the paste of her body, beheaded by Shiva and given an elephant's head (Shiva Purana); a child of Vishnu's promise whose head fell at Shani's glance (Brahmavaivarta); made by Shiva alone (Linga), by both parents (Varaha), or from Parvati's bath (Matsya); or born of the goddess Malini. He also appears as the Brahmin boy who tricks Ravana at Gokarna and as the god left at Mahagunas on the road to Amarnath.
