Mitra
The friend among the Vedic gods, an Aditya, almost always praised with Varuna as the pair Mitra-Varuna; only Rigveda 3.59 is his alone. He stirs people to their work, holds up earth and sky and watches with unclosing eyes. Later Vedic texts give him the day and Varuna the night; the Brahmanas call him the priesthood beside Varuna the ruling power. With Varuna he is father of Vasishtha and Agastya. In the Puranas he is one of the twelve Adityas on the sun's chariot.
