The story, beat by beat

  1. The gods tell Yajna, the Sacrifice, to beckon Vac.
  2. She disdains him, then shakes her head, then calls him to her.
  3. The gods have her come over to where he stands and cut her off from the Asuras.
  4. The Asuras, deprived of speech, cry out unintelligibly and are undone.

At the gods' urging the Sacrifice beckons Vac three times; she refuses twice and then calls him. Once she has come over, the gods take possession of her and offer her up as their own, and the Asuras, left without speech, can only cry out in sounds no one understands.
