Arunachala Mahatmya (Skanda Purana, Maheshvara Khanda)
The two-part praise of the red hill inside the Skanda Purana's first book. Its first part (thirteen chapters) tells how Parvati covered Shiva's eyes, did penance at Kanchi and then at the hill under Gautama's guidance, killed Mahisha, found a linga in his throat that stuck to her hand, and was taken back by Shiva as Apitakucha on the Krittika day of Karttika; its second part tells the pillar of fire and the same penance again.
