Vishvakarma Puja

The yearly worship of Vishvakarma by craftsmen, mechanics and factory workers. It is fixed by the sun: Kanya Sankranti, the last day of the Bengali month of Bhadra, which is 17 September in most years. Tools and machines are garlanded and rested, and Kolkata flies kites. In north and west India he is honoured the day after Diwali; the Vishvakarma craft communities also keep Rishi Panchami for him.
