Annapurna

Parvati as the giver of food, queen of Kashi, with a golden ladle and a pot, Shiva at her side holding a begging bowl. The Kashi temple's story: Shiva calls the world and its food illusion, Parvati withdraws and food vanishes, Shiva begs in Kashi and she feeds him by hand. Bharatchandra's Bengali Annada Mangal (1752) tells the same famine and feeding, with Shiva dancing for joy and Vishvakarma building her city. Shankara's Annapurna Stotram ends every verse with a plea for alms.
