Chhari Mubarak, the holy mace
The saffron-robed silver mace (in some accounts a pair) kept at the Dashnami Akhara in Srinagar and carried by its Mahant to the cave for Shravan Purnima, after pujas at the Shankaracharya temple and Sharika Bhawani on Hari Parbat and the Chhari Pujan on Nag Panchami, with night halts at Pahalgam, Chandanwari, Sheshnag and Panjtarni, and immersion in the Lidder the day after. The Bringesha Samhita tradition says Shiva gave it to the sage Bhringesha when demons harassed his disciples on the road; under Sikh rule it set out from Amritsar, under the Dogras from Srinagar.
