Amarnath Yatra

Also called: Shri Amarnathji Yatra, Amareshvara yatra, Amarnath pilgrimage

The summer pilgrimage to the ice linga in the Amarnath cave at 3,888 m above Pahalgam, open each year from late June or early July on the Shrine Board's date until Shravan Purnima, when the Chhari Mubarak, the holy mace of the Dashnami Akhara, reaches the cave. Two routes (Pahalgam by Chandanwari, Sheshnag and Panjtarni; Baltal), a Pratham Puja on Jyeshtha Purnima, registration with a health certificate for ages 13 to 70, ponies and palkis carried by Kashmiri Muslims, and Punjab's langars.
