Chhath

Also called: Chhath Puja, Surya Shashthi, Dala Chhath

Four-day festival of the Sun and Chhathi Maiya, kept on the sixth day of the bright half of Kartika (and again in Chaitra) in Bihar, Jharkhand, eastern Uttar Pradesh and Nepal: a bath and plain meal, a day's fast broken with jaggery rice, an evening offering to the setting Sun and a dawn offering to the rising Sun, standing in water.
