Thaipusam

Also called: Thai Poosam, Thaipooyam, Cavadee, Thaipoosam Cavadee

Murugan's festival on the full moon of the Tamil month Thai that falls with the Pusam star, kept as the day Parvati gave him the Vel. Devotees who have fasted carry the kavadi, pierce themselves with small vels and pour milk over the god, at Palani and the Tamil temples, in Kerala as Thaipooyam, and across the Tamil world at Batu Caves, Penang, Singapore, Jaffna, Mauritius and Reunion.
