Shiva Purana, Rudra Samhita (Srishti khanda) 23

Pan-India Shaiva

Among the beings Brahma makes from his mind is a daughter named Sandhya, twilight, and at the same moment Kama, love, with his bow of flowers. Wanting to try his weapon, Kama looses it at the assembly, and Brahma and his sage-sons look at the girl with desire. Shiva, passing, laughs at them, and the laughter shames Brahma into turning on the archer: Kama will one day be burnt to nothing by Shiva's glance. Sandhya, mortified by what she has caused, withdraws to the mountains to practise austerity. On the sage Medhatithi's advice she enters his sacrificial fire and comes out of it reborn as Arundhati, the model of a faithful wife, who marries Vasishtha; the star pair named for them is shown to couples at North Indian weddings.
