Brahma

The creator of the Puranic triad, grandfather of the worlds, father of the mind-born sages and the giver of boons that drive many demon stories. His existence is told at least five ways (golden womb, golden egg, lotus from Vishnu's navel, self-birth, and a face of Shiva) and the texts never reconcile them. He had a sect in the post-Vedic centuries but by the seventh century had been overshadowed by Vishnu, Shiva and the Goddess; today he has a scattering of temples rather than a following, and nearly every regional story about him explains that fading as a humbling.
