Krishna

Also called: Vasudeva, Gopala, Govinda, Dwarkadhish

Born in Kamsa's prison at Mathura and carried across the Yamuna to Gokul; the cowherd of Braj, the king of Dwarka, the teacher of the Gita. Most of Vishnu's regional forms — Vithoba, Shrinathji, Guruvayurappan, Udupi Krishna, Jagannath — are worshipped as Krishna, and the Chaitanya and Sankardev movements are Krishna-centred. Split into sub-cycles later.
